If there's one thing that can bring warmth and comfort to the table, it's a fresh batch of homemade buttermilk biscuits. Flaky, buttery, and oh-so-delicious, these biscuits are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side dish for any meal. But we're not stopping there - we're going to take your buttermilk biscuits to the next level with a delectable garlic butter topping and of course cheese!
Irresistible Buttermilk Biscuits with a Garlic Butter Twist
Ingredients:
For the Buttermilk Biscuits:
4 cups unbleached flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced into 1/4-inch cubes
1 ½ cups cold buttermilk
3 oz sharp cheddar cheese
For the Garlic Butter:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
½ teaspoon Johnny's garlic spread seasoning

Instructions:
For the Buttermilk Biscuits:
Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200°C).
In a food processor, combine the unbleached flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and sea salt. Pulse the mixture to ensure even distribution of the dry ingredients.
Add the cold, diced unsalted butter to the dry ingredients in the food processor. Pulse the mixture until it resembles coarse sand, which should take around 7-12 pulses. You want to maintain small buttery bits for that irresistible flakiness.
Transfer the mixture from the food processor to a mixing bowl. Add in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
Gradually pour in the cold buttermilk and gently fold it into the mixture until just moistened. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
Turn the biscuit dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently shape it into a ball. Pat the dough down or use a rolling pin to create a 1-inch thick layer.
Using a biscuit cutter or any desired shape (round biscuits are classic), cut out the biscuits. You can gather and reroll the dough scraps to minimize waste.
Place the cut biscuits on a greased baking sheet or one lined with parchment paper. If you prefer, you can wrap the prepared biscuits and refrigerate them for up to 2 hours to bake later. This makes them an excellent make-ahead option.
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. Then, turn the baking sheet for even baking and continue baking for an additional 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and perfectly flaky.
For the Garlic Butter:
While the biscuits are baking, prepare the garlic butter topping. In a small saucepan melt the unsalted butter.
Once the butter is melted, add the garlic spread seasoning and stir well. Let it infuse for a minute or two, releasing that delightful garlic aroma.
When the biscuits come out of the oven, generously brush the tops with the fragrant garlic butter. This step adds a mouthwatering twist that elevates these buttermilk biscuits to a whole new level of flavor!

Your freshly baked buttermilk biscuits with a garlic butter twist are now ready to be served. Enjoy them warm, with a dollop of butter, or as a delightful addition to your favorite meal. On a cold rainy day, I love to pair these with Salmon Leek Chowder. The combination of flakiness, cheddar, and that savory garlic butter will leave your taste buds dancing with joy. So go ahead, savor every bite, and share this delightful recipe with your loved ones. Happy baking!
