Creating A Custom Pin Board

It's easy to view an office pin board as merely a spot for to-do lists and scribbled notes. However, with the right approach, it can become one of the most visually appealing elements of your home office. In this super simple step by step guide we'll show you how to DIY a custom pin board using a blank canvas, staple gun, and fabric.

Materials Needed:

  1. Framed Canvas board

  2. Fabric of your choice

  3. Staple gun

  4. Staples

  5. Scissors

Begin by selecting the appropriate size for your pin board. I chose a 24 x 48 inch canvas board, which I purchased from Michael's (they always have coupons available.) Next, decide on a fabric color that complements your space; I opted for a grey heather suit material from Jo-Ann Fabrics. They too almost always have coupons available.

Next, lay your chosen fabric on a clean, flat surface. Center the canvas board on the fabric, leaving a few extra inches on each side to wrap around the edges.

Starting from one side, pull the fabric taut and secure it to the back of the canvas with a staple gun. Move to the opposite side and repeat, ensuring the fabric remains smooth. Continue stapling along the remaining edges.

For clean corners, fold the fabric at each corner as if wrapping a present. Pull the fabric taut and secure with staples. Trim any excess fabric if necessary and voila- you're done. It's that easy!

*Design Tip*

Consider adding decorative ribbon or grommets along the edges for an extra touch of charm. Use the pinboard to display photos, notes, or inspirational quotes. One of my favorite things to pin are little mementos and photos that bring a smile to my face. Yes, I want it to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but also to evoke memories of happy times with loved ones, which I find provides the best kind of inspiration during a work week.
